A large flowering Hybrid Tea rose, the ‘Whiskey Mac’ produces extremely fragrant blooms of a golden/apricot blend, throughout the summer and into the autumn. The glossy foliage is green with a tint of bronze, and has a vigorous, bushy growing habit. This rose grows to 75cm in height, and has a spread of about 60cm.
Hybrid Tea Roses are the oldest modern group of roses. They were first introduced back in 1867 and since then they have become the most popular group of roses in the world. A French Nurseryman, named Jean-Baptiste Guillot, cross bred the popular roses of the time, Hybrid Perpetuals and Tea Roses. The result was 'La France'; a hardier rose than the often tender Tea Roses and a better repeat-flowerer than the Hybrid Perpetuals, traits which all Hybrid Teas share. They also exhibit shapely, large, high-centred blooms on lengthy, straight and erect stems. Their popularity comes from colour choice, flower form and use within the floristry.
Planting & Care Instructions-
These roses come supplied as bare root, so before planting these roses, soak the roots in a bucket of water for at least 2 hours, and no longer than 12 hours. All roses love an open, sunny position so plant in the area of your garden that receives the most sunlight. Any moist but well-draining garden soil is fine to plant roses in but the key to good establishment is soil preparation. Dig a deep hole for good drainage and add lots of organic matter to the surrounding soil to give the roots plenty of access to nutrients. It’s worth taking a bit of time when planting your rose to guarantee good establishment. Plant at pot level and sprinkle in some blood, fish & bone to ensure the roots can get maximum nutrient absorption from the second it's planted.
These roses will reach an eventual height or between 2-3ft and a width of 1-2ft. Pruning is essential to maintain a compact form, healthy growth and strong and prolific flowering. From February to March prune back all stem to 20cm and reduce any remaining side stems to 3 buds. At this time remove any and all dead, diseased and damaged stems. After pruning a mulch of well-rotted farm yard manure or garden compost during spring and autumn will give your roses all the feed they need for the following season.
