More commonly known as the ‘Purple-leaved Plum’, Prunus Pissardy produces a small amount of red and yellow plums during the autumn season. Early to mid-spring sees the smooth green bark covered in masses of blush white flowers. These are joined by ovate leaves that begin red in spring and turn purple in summer.
The Prunus Pissardy is fully hardy, thrives in any exposure level and most soil conditions except for waterlogged soils. Its attractive foliage and low maintenance make it well suited for small gardens.
This tree is stored in a 7.5 litre pot and will be approximately 1.5 metres tall. Aged just 2 years, the Prunus Pissardy can expect to reach heights of 10 metres, with a similar width when it becomes fully mature aged around 36 years.
On arrival of your tree ensure that you water thoroughly, especially before planting. Preparation of the planting are is important too; make sure you remove any large stones and perennial weeds from the soil. Adding lots of organic matter, such as well rotted garden compost or farmyard manure, to the soil is highly beneficial and will aid in establishment. Water when planted and throughout the first growing season in one week intervals.
